House plant frenzy!

I’ve been needing to pot on some rooted cuttings and today was the day.

The roots on my Rhaphidophora tetrasperma looking great, I’m hoping that now I’ve planted it, it’ll grow fast.

Another cutting with stunning leaves, this is Epipremnum aureum ‘N’ Joy, more commonly known as Pothos.

I had some other green Pothos to plant up, and two varieties of impatiens cuttings.

I have another variety of Tradescantia, they are easy to propagate from cuttings. This is Tradescantia pallida.

A bit of an update on the mango seed. I was told to dry the husk and then open it.

I opened it, sadly the seed didn’t come out whole. A little broke off.

I have planted the seed and fingers crossed it will sprout.

Enjoy your plants!

A tidy garden …

I found myself gardening at my parents today. Not sure if I had subconsciously decided this or not.

Pottered about and tidied up.

The Canna brasiliensis has flowered well and has set seed. Lots of swollen buds!

I have also potted on the Japanese Bitter Orange (Citrus trifoliata).

I bought this Begonia a few years ago as a present for my dad. I haven’t really done much with it over the winters other than kept it frost free. I’m surprised at how well it still grows!

I also moved the second half of the flower stand and displayed more hostas. This has made the whole are so much tidier.

My parents are happy how their garden is changing and feeling more like they can sit and relax.

It is important that we sit and relax (or even sit and contemplate) in your green space.

Enjoy your green space!

Another delivery

I’m happy to receive this parcel today. It was sent on Monday, it arrived today.

This delivery was from Roseland House Nursery.

I have the following:

Bomarea hirtella syn Edulis. An interesting climber that is meant to have a long summer flowering period.

Tropaeolum tricolour. This is the pot that appears empty. This is an inhaler form as it is dormant in the summer. It’s grows and flowers when most other plants are dormant for winter.

Vitis vinifera ‘Muscat of Alexandria’. I have chosen this one with help from David. He sells wine and he is also interested to see how the grows and fruits. You can already see fruit on the vine.

I’m also really grateful to David for replacing my dead Tetrapanex, I can’t wait for it to grow big and give the exotic feel.

Until tomorrow’s plant adventure.

Green, boring? NEVER!

The jasmine is not only looking amazing it smells better than you can imagine!

I pruned the fig tree, I decided to take many cuttings of varying types. We will soon see it they grow!

Look at the yucca about to flower.

This is my aloe shelf. Aloe vera, variegata and aristata.

This is a cool plant! Oxalis triangularis, they open and close. So cool!!

I have some borage in the yarden, love the colour of the flowers. However the bees love them!!!

This beauty is Aoenium zwartkop.

This is a montage of the various greens and foliage in our yarden. Hostas, ferns, grasses, bamboo, Zantedeschia, monkey puzzle, solanum.

Enjoy your green space and see you tomorrow.

Scorcher of a day!

I’ve really enjoyed the scorching day! All my plants appear to be growing so well. I did have to water many this afternoon.

Yes – apologies for the caladium update. You’ll be pleased to know that these are two of sixteen varieties!!

A friend gave me a water lily last week. Here it is potted up and moved to it’s forever home. I hope it’s going to be happy.

I was pleased to see that the oxalis are all popping through the ground now. I grow four varieties in total, I’d love to grow more.

Please remember our little friends that visit our green spaces. A simple drinking ‘bar’ for bees and other visitors can me made from very little. Here is an old container and some pebbles topped up with water.

I CANNOT wait until May ends.

Don’t cast a clout until May is out.

This is an ‘old wives tale’ but is one us gardeners live by. With the risk of frost still possible it’s always best to check the weather and be able to protect those babies.

Here are all the plants I am growing from seed in our flat! This is our spare room and bed.

And the lounge. Let’s face it – all the window sills are filled!!

A friend and I often order plants together. These beauties arrived today from Jurassic plants.

Here we have two types of fig, a medlar, a Szechuan pepper, an aronia bush and two edible fruiting elaeagnus. Hoping to enjoy the fruit in the future.

I am also very lucky and grateful that David gave me this little intrigue – an Arisaema, ciliatum var. Liubaense. Can’t wait for this to flower!

Whilst visiting David and of course social distancing, I saw this extraordinary flower on his Passion flower.

I am also extremely happy with the growth and progress of this recent purchase from AJ Plants. This is the tropaeolum tuberosum, a lovely leaved nasturtium.

Another friend, also called David, gave me this plant. It is a climbing abuliton. You may be able to see the bud.

It is called Abuliton megapotamicum. It is slow to start but if this warm weather continues I’m sure it’ll be right at home.

I haven’t mentioned hostas for some time, here is an amazing plant. Hosta halcyon. It is one of the many blue forms and a popular favourite.

Hosta la vista

Wild wild wild

I’ve had a busy day today. Not in my yarden or my parents but in my old next door neighbour.

I used to look after this when I lived next door but haven’t had the time in the last few years.

As much as it was great to see the fig thriving and with figs!!! (I will be taking cuttings from it one day) I wasn’t happy to see how overgrown and how much work I had to get it back to former glory.

After a couple of hours work …

Obviously more to do but pleased with my progress and happy to see some frogs too!!
