Not so busy in the garden

I haven’t really been busy in the garden today.

Managed to buy some compost.

Showed my parents how to look after their lawn and reseed it.

They have some lovely plants at the moment. Here is geranium palmatum.

I also set up an air layer on the grape in the greenhouse for my friend. Let’s see how that works.

Hope to get more done tomorrow.

Frost?!?

Don’t think we actually did here!!!

Turned out not be a bad day really. Cooler but still sunshine and even a tad of rain. Us gardeners are always so appreciative.

I’d love it to be really warm and rain constantly from 02:00 – 06:00. That would be super, what do you think?

I may have placed an order for some more plants including some amazing fruit trees including almond and the much less known – medlar. Oh and one of my favourite fruits – figs!

Also ordered some different Zantedeschia – green goddess and flamingo. Can’t wait to see those.

I am looking forward to the summer. This was our yarden last year. We have many more plants and changes so hoping it looks even more like

Until tomorrow.

Full day in the sun!

Another great sunny day!

Every morning I check seedlings and water houseplants. I am pleased to see the caladiums are finally growing well!!

A wander round the Tiny Tropical Yarden and look at the flower on this Zantedeschia Hercules along with my Ensete maurelii also known as the Abysinian Banana. Both are very tropical looking, though the ensete needs winter protection.

Here is another lily, same family as Hercules, Zantedeschia aeothiopica. Another hardy tropical looking plant.

I popped to my parents to drop off a few bits. I was pleased to see the Geranium palmatum in flower.

As soon as I returned home David and I had breakfast al fresco.

Then I got to work pottering about in our yarden. The first job was to decant the nettle tea into bottles, it was starting to smell badly as I had no cover for my bucket.

The blue skies and my bamboo!!

I repotted my Tetrapanex and Aspidistra saxoca, even have it some height by mounting on top of some breeze blocks. Fingers crossed it survives the ordeal.

I have recently started watching Beechgrove Garden and they had this great idea for house leeks and similar plants.

David helped me in the garden and we put this little bird house up. We do get lots of birds visiting the yarden and we thought we’d give them to option to stay over.

We also mounted some wine boxes on the walls.

It was great to see that this lovely bee was able to rest on the leaves in my little pond and take a well needed break and drink!

I am pleased to say that today was the first day we picked salad fresh from our yarden. This was a tasty herb salad of mixed salad leaves, dill, mint, oca and oregano.

More tomorrow I am sure …

Propagation pay off ?

A busy day gardening.

Started off when I went shopping in Aldi and they had these amazing bargains. Bought a few baskets for friends.

I took these dahlia cuttings yesterday. They are called ‘Sandra’, same name as my mum so eager to have many to share.

So happy that the setaria palmifolia are growing so well.

When the sun is out I love sharing my gardening time with my parents. Here is my dad pricking out and potting on some dahlia seedlings. I pricked out the mesembryanthemums seedlings.

I also potted on some more hostas and split a few too. Along with the Zantedeschia Odessa (black flowered arum).

I attempted to take some cuttings from the impatiens tinctoria.

The dreaded lily beetle is in a neighbourhood near you!! Watch out! Thankfully this isn’t in my yarden!

Hope to get some stuff down in our Tiny Tropical Yarden tomorrow.

Plant filled day!

My morning wander round our Tiny Tropical Yarden and I was happy to see the Zantedeschia flowering.

Also happy to see that the caladiums are finally showing.

I have been trying to grow these at our house and nothing. I tried them in the greenhouse at my parents and look at the result.

These are mirabilis jalapa, also known as the four o’clock flower. They are heavily scented and the flowers open and close too!

I took some ‘cuttings’ of the yucca …

This rambling rose is loving the weather. Look at all those buds! I’m not the biggest rose fan but I love scent and this will fill the garden.

Here is my hosta, blue mouse ears looking great!!

I also split a few more hostas. They have been planted in the pots for some time and there is always a struggle getting them out of the pots. I am pleased that I have nearly worked my way through all the potted hostas.

I was checking the Zantedeschia Odessa bulbs, and I was impressed to find eight bulbs and some great sizes.

Back in our yarden the giant Zantedeschia ‘Hercules’ is flowering. Growing great!

I have a variety of veggies and edibles growing in my yarden bin.

I’m also loving how green and lush this variety of edibles and ornamentals on my vertical planters are!

These are some banana skins and coffee grounds as well as tea bags that are destined to be plant food! I never through any of these or egg shells away!! They all have great nutritional properties when they break down.

Until tomorrow

Colourful day

A simple gardening day today.

Went for a lovely walk (exercise time) around Didsbury. Some stunning plants.

The wisteria is stunning on this house!

A mixtures of pinks and reds …

Subtler shades …

Back in our yarden, I have hung these small glass bottles. I intend to use them for cuttings and any accidental flower chops – like this marsh marigold.

I’m excited to see my Cautleya is poking out of soil amongst the black mondo grass.

Tonight I have been pricking out these seedlings. They are an interesting tropical plant. Lobelia fistulosa – I have never grown these before and am hoping that I can get them to grow big!

Made some more plant labels out of the milk bottles my parents are saving for me.

Night night!

Well it was today…

I hope you’ve all enjoyed time (bearing all) in your green space today.

After all it is World National Gardening Day!

Here is David touching up the paint job I had been doing on the fences whilst I sat and read my little book of hostas.

Other than this it was pretty much a gardening free day.

I’m sure there’ll be more to catch you up on tomorrow.

We have rain!

Bit of a chilly start to the day. So much so, I haven’t really done anything I the yarden or any where it seems.

I took a picture of this Zantedeschia Aeotopica Hercules to show the friend that brought it back from Cornwall when she went on holiday down there.

If was about three years ago, she now lives there!!

Then the rain came finally!!! The plants will be loving this!

Also moved the seedlings on to a better display in the window.

Until tomorrow

All fenced in …

Not much to report today. Popped to my parents. Thought I’d share some pictures of plants growing there.

Really happy at how fast this impatiens tinctoria is growing.

Canna that over-wintered in the ground is back up!

The abuliton is soon to flower!

I love the colours on this euphorbia.

The paeonies are growing really well this year.

Most of the hostas are out…

I love the colours when they shoot and how they change.

These fences are about to be painted!

My friend David and I had a socially distant visit and ‘swapped’ some more plants.

His knowledge of plants (more the unusual and bizarre) and his kindness make me forever grateful.

Today I add the following to my collection:

Beschorneria septentrionalis

Echinopsis lageniformis (pictured)

Hylocereus undatus – Dragon fruit (pictured)

Punica granatum – pomegranate

Potted up

Tomorrow I am on a search for a clematis and painting fences.

Until tomorrow.
